Te Whanganui-ā-Tara | Wellington

Te Whanganui-ā-Tara is the capital city of Aotearoa and is bustling with opportunities to get involved with climate action at both the national and local scale. Our city is growing rapidly and key decisions are going to be made over the next few years to decide how it looks and feels in the next few decades.

Generation Zero Wellington is a diverse group of young people who focus on lobbying government and advocating for better policy decisions for everyone. Recently we have done campaigns for Wellington City Councils Spatial Plan, District Plan, and Bike Network Plan, as well as the Let's Get Wellington Moving Programme. 2022 is looking to a big year for us, with a focus on Local Body Elections and creating a submission for the last District Plan consultation.

We love welcoming new volunteers, so if you’re keen to get involved in our mahi get in touch at [email protected].

Our weekly catch ups are on Tuesday evenings, and they’re a great chance to make new friends, learn, and get stuck in. Our regular venue is fully accessible, there is parking onsite if you need it, and there is a Zoom link option available. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to make our meetings accessible to you. All backgrounds and skill sets are welcome, there is opportunity for everyone!

As a bustling capital city, it's important we all work together towards our distinct and intertwined goals to decarbonise Te Whanganui-a Tara. Building relationships is vital in ensuring coherent messaging and building strong support behind movements. We build relationships with our communities and allies through working together, trainings, and fun social gatherings. Fundings are needed to purchase digital tools, book venues, buy kai (very important to get people coming!), hire trainers, and many more for all of these to happen. If you'd like to support us, please consider signing up to be a regular donor! All funds donated via this page will be used to help decarbonise Te Whanganui-a Tara.
